Reflecting on my time in LA
Over the last 2 months since our move to Oregon, I've been processing a lot of heaviness and uncertainty. This processing has included many physical symptoms such as total body pain and aches, crying fits out of nowhere, and the overwhelming feeling like I made a huge mistake waking me up midway through the night. I’m now in a position where I’ve felt a good chunk of my feelings and am ready to talk about them. Many of you have been so curious about what things are looking like for me and it’s time I give you a proper update.
TSC list of Facial do's and don'ts
As a commitment to myself in 2020, I have decided to get a facial every month this year. It seems like a frivolous goal but honestly, it’s part study and part self-care. As a facialist for my entire adulthood, I know nothing but this work. I can go into facialist mode and work through a busy week with new and returning clients. I can tackle the hard questions and redundant newbie asks. I notice the little details and think ahead. However, being a recipient of these facials are just as important for me to elevate my craft…
Optimizing your facial
It’s pretty clear at the end of a treatment if someone will benefit from our time together or not. A facial is not just an opportunity to relax or a time to get your skin cleared up, it’s an opportunity for an updated education on your skin’s health by tuning into what your skin is telling us. If we miss out on our chance to listen in, there can be some confusion as to why our skin responds in the way that it does post-treatment. There are a few simple steps that I like to tune into in order to make sure my clients feel supported but the key is if they are ready to participate in what can optimize the facial’s potential. Here are a few key steps towards achieving that very important skin care goal.
Common Skin Misconceptions!
There are several misconceptions that we are taught to think about our skin throughout our lives. I have spent the last 10 years of my life having to re-teach my clientele about these misconceptions as I was one of the millions of young women who fell prey to them. I grew up genuinely believing that I wasn’t good enough because I didn’t match the unrealistic standards of society on women. My skin wasn’t clear therefore I wasn’t good enough. Sounds so shallow and self hating to think that I would compare my worth to a health imbalance but it was very real to me at the time. I still work on shedding off what the many articles I read in Cosmo, Glamour and any other mainstream magazines that created the impossible guide to being perfect. So today let me help break down the common skin misconceptions that we are still encountering today so hopefully your self worth will be uplifted and not challenged anymore.
Why I work from home
This weekend I attended a fantastic workshop at Wanderlust Hollywood hosted by the lovely Lauren Singer from Trash is for Tossers. One of my personal resolutions this year was to decrease my waste and continue to educate myself on how to help protect our mother earth. Having the opportunity to meet Lauren and learn some of her go-to recipes for zero waste home care products reminded me of why I decided to leave the spa world: IT’S INCREDIBLY WASTEFUL! Here are some of the main reasons why working from home is a small way to make a big impact:
Recover from a facial flawlessly
I will be the first to admit that I can’t stand the aftermath of a facial. I’m a prime candidate for the non stop extractions, too much exfoliation and not enough love. For my skin to look good after a facial it can take about 5-7 days for it to recover. If this is a problem for an esthetician it can obviously be an issue for anybody else. In order to recover from a facial flawlessly there are a few steps you can follow no matter what your skin is going through. Here are my go to steps to insuring your skin’s best health post facial.
